St. John Athletic Association
The St. John Athletic Association (SJAA) is a parent volunteer organization that provides our student athletes an excellent opportunity to participate in athletics, which becomes a valued component of their total Catholic educational experience.
We embrace these guiding principles:
A key component to accomplishing these goals is through demonstration of good character by our adult volunteers and parents.
Athletic Philosophy We believe in promoting a positive sports culture that promotes habits of perseverance, responsible decision-making, teamwork, prayer, and whole health. This year Saint John the Evangelist is partnering with the Play Like a Champion Today educational series. Play Like a Champion Today is a national coach and parent education program designed by the Alliance for Catholic Education at the University of Notre Dame to elevate the culture of Catholic school-sponsored sports. Saint John the Evangelist will provide a Parent Like a Champion Today workshop for all parents. Parents receive resources that will help them contribute to building the positive culture that is the focus of Saint John the Evangelist and the Play Like a Champion program. SJAA Volunteers
SJAA strives to provide all of our student athletes with an excellent opportunity to participate in an athletic experience that will become a valued component of their total Catholic educational experience at St. John the Evangelist School. It takes many volunteers to make this possible. With that in mind, if you have an interest in serving on the SJAA Board, coaching a team(s), or would like to volunteer in some other way, we invite you to email [email protected]. In addition to directly helping the student athletes, volunteering to serve on the SJAA Board is a wonderful way to meet other school parents, have a positive impact on the lives of all St. John’s students, and give back to the school in fulfilling and personal way. |

Athletic Participation & Eligibility
Athletic Participation
Athletic participation is a privilege and not a right. To those who strive to succeed in the classroom comes the privilege to compete outside of it. With that understanding, SJAA will do its best to place all interested students that are academically eligible on a team provided that there are enough students in that age bracket to form a team.
Eligibility & Expectations
While the athletic program is designed to be an extension of the student’s education, academics must always take precedence over any extracurricular activities. To be eligible to participate, students must:
- Set positive Christian leadership examples in behavior and attitude in school.
- Maintain a minimum of at least a C average throughout the marking period.
- The student-athletes should come to all games and practices with the proper equipment and uniform (if necessary); and be ready to play.
- The student-athletic program at Saint John the Evangelist school is a program that involves physical requirements that parents and students need to be aware of when deciding to commit to playing a sport.
- Attendance at all practices and games is expected. Absence or lack of preparedness may impact playing time.
- Parents of student-athletes are expected to support their children on arriving on time while at practice and picking their student-athlete up on time.
