Community Partnerships

Each year Grade 1 students complete an interactive visit to the Zoo that engages students with the animals and habitats of Africa, the sub-Arctic, and Maryland.

Kinder Farm Park is a 288 acre park which offers a variety of natural and recreational activities. The 9/11 Memorial Garden is part of the 2.4 mile perimeter trail which is popular among local residents for walking and biking.

St. John is proud to partner with Boy Scout Troop 450. Troop 450 is an outdoor oriented troop enjoying monthly excursions to camp, hike, swim, fish, canoe, caving, zip line, as well as conduct service related projects such as picking vegetables and fruit for Harvest for the Hungry, supporting the Baltimore Diocese Faith Walk and flag placement at the Crownsville Veterans Cemetery for Memorial Day. A St. John alum recently completed his Eagle Scout project refurbishing a School field for recreational use and installing bird houses to create a natural habitat.

Saint John teamed with the DePaul House to compete in the Dragon Boat Races. The team consisted of faculty and family members. The proceeds from the event benefited Catholic Charites.

Grade 2 students completed a unit on environmental education which is culminated by a field trip to Jug Bay Sanctuary.

In Grade 3, students do an Environmental unit on animals and habitats culminating in a trip to SERC, which includes hands-on and inquiry-based lessons in their outdoor classrooms and microscope laboratory.

St John began its partnership with the Chesapeake Bay Environmental Center in 2014. Fifth Grade students attend field trips at the CBEC annually. There they participate in different activities: Catch a Bay Critter, Remarkable Oyster, and Guided Kayak Tour.

Linnea Boogades Program Specialist from the
Recycling and Waste Reduction Division of Anne Arundel County came to present recycling information to the students and faculty. Seeds to plant and pencils made of recycled materials were presented to students. |

With the help of Tommy, the school was able to purchase reusable lunch containers for all students as part of our Earth Week Celebration.
